2009: A Year of Expansion

The Lord showed me a small room in which dough was being made. The room was filled with dough in various stages of preparation, and even more was being made. The woman making the dough was feverishly attending to her tasks of making the dough, allowing it to rise, rolling it out, etc. As the dough sat there, I could see it rising more and more. It was my sense that eventually, and very soon, the dough would overtake the entire room, pushing out beyond the walls of the room itself, becoming more than the room could contain.

As I sought the meaning of this vision, one word was dropped into my spirit -- Expansion. Just as the dough multiplied beyond the room's capacity to contain it, so will it be with the body of Christ.

2009 is going to be a year of expansion. All that the Lord has been making in us and through us, and all that we have put our hands to, will reach the point where it can no longer be contained where we are. It will require more room to grow, more room to expand, and will no longer be able to be contained within the small humble beginnings from which it came. Be it a ministry, a job, a business, whatever the case may be, expansion is at hand.

With this expansion comes the need for more resources. Some will need bigger facilities to accommodate their ministry or business. Some will need more workers to complete the work to be done. Some will need more finances. Whatever is needed, the Lord has already provided it all. This expansion is a God ordained event. He knows our needs before we even know them. So trust Him to provide for the vision he has given you.

But even more, this expansion isn't just an enlargement of things we are currently working on or involved with -- it also encompasses new things.

During one of PFMI's prayer meetings, I felt the Lord leading me to ask him to sow seed. Not to ask him for seed to sow, but to ask him to sow seed. I quickly realized that the Lord wants to sow new seed in all of his children's lives. He wants to sow seed in us and in our path that we will find, cultivate, nurture and allow to grow -- new gifts, new talents, new abilities, new opportunities, new ideas, new ministries, new businesses. Everything starts from a seed -- it's from a seed that big things grow. And His seed is plentiful! He has much he wants to give us.

But to receive this new seed of expansion, we must ask Him for it! So ask! Also, ask the Lord to to give you the discernment to recognize the seed He has sown in your path. Then, be alert and open to any new opportunities, to any new seeds, that the Lord has sown in your path throughout all of 2009 and beyond.

At first glance, the seed may not seem appealing, or something you would be interested in pursuing. But don't allow thoughts of 'it's not what I'm used to' to steal the seed that God has sown for you. Remain open to new opportunities. The Lord knows what He has equipped you for -- allow Him to show you the hidden talents and abilities He has placed within you.

This new seed of expansion is very important, and I believe will play a significant role in our lives in the future. God is setting us up for blessings down the road.

On January 21, 2009, I had a dream. It was very short but repetitive -- I kept seeing and experiencing the same thing over and over again. I was trying to play a video file on my computer, but the computer was unable to play it due to its age. The computer did not have the proper software to play this video; the software was basically out of date. I kept seeing this over and over. And what I felt while seeing this is that the 'old ways' of doing things will no longer work; that now it's time for a new thing.

The dream was short but I believe it says much. I felt very strongly, even as I was waking, that this dream related to the inauguration of president Obama the day before, but more. It is as if his inauguration marked a point in time when something changed in the spirit. Not that the inauguration of president Obama was the change, or that it caused or established the change, but rather that it was a sign of something that has changed in the spirit. And this change is even more broad in scope than the change of a president, or changes in the natural realm. This change represents God doing a new thing. As I woke, I was reminded me of the scripture...

Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

This new thing that the Lord is doing, this thing in which the old ways will no longer work, requires the new seed the Lord wants to sow. It requires the new ways of doing things, the new opportunities, the new talents and abilities.

It's a new day! It's a new time! And the Lord is doing a new thing! Expansion! And we must lay hold of it while we can.
