All PFMI Ministers and Mentoree's, including those whom are in the
Assessment Period, are required to tithe to PFMI.
A tithe is defined as the first 10% of a person's income (before
taxes and expenses). This is in accordance with scripture.
Tithing is a major issue that needs corrected within the Body of
Christ today, and it has come up again and again with many of the
applications we have received. Tithing and giving offerings is something
that reveals what a person holds dear. Tithing is not just "Old
Testament law," it is a spiritual principle established by God and
written into the fabric of existence that is in full operation today.
Sadly, this principle seems to have been lost by many within the
Body. Christians don't seem to understand the repercussions of not
tithing. All one need do is look around to see the financial state
of the majority of Christians. So many are in abject poverty. So
many are in lack. And so few have the great abundance the Lord promised
us. It's obvious that what is being done by so many isn't working!
We must return to living our lives according to the word of God
in order for this to change. Christians should be the wealthiest
people on earth! But God has not moved the wealth of the wicked
into his people's hands in abundance because they cannot yet handle
it - unfortunately, many are not faithful, i.e., God is not first
in the area of finances.
The push to remove the principles of tithing under the guise of
"we are under grace" is nothing more than an attempt by the enemy
to cripple the economy of God's kingdom on earth, and the finances
of his people. The enemy knows that the violation of this principle
will stop the flow of funds into the kingdom of God, and in turn
stop the flow of funds into Christian's hands for the promotion
of the gospel around the world, rendering the Church financially
weak and powerless, unable to move forward, and unable to help others.
There is strength in unity. We at PFMI look for those who will be
in unity with us, in Christ, in the proper handling of their finances,
as well as the other aspects of their life. This is absolutely necessary
for the sake of the ministry and for the sake of the individuals
who comprise the ministry. A house divided against itself shall
fall. (Matthew 12:25) But nothing shall be impossible to those who
are in unity in Christ, honoring God with their finances. And for
this reason, we all need to be going in the same direction - not
only within PFMI, but also within the body of Christ as a whole.
BELOW ARE SOME ANSWERS TO SOME COMMON VIEWS/BELIEFS THAT HAVE ARISEN.
"I only give as the Lord directs."
The Lord has already directed us concerning how to give, where to
give, when to give, and what to give in his written word. The Lord
will not contradict himself or his word, nor will he violate the
spiritual principles he has set in motion. And anyone who believes
that the Lord will move them to tithe only occasionally (and many
do), lack spiritual insight and obviously believe that God will
violate his own word.
When God establishes a statute (a spiritual law/principle) of how
all of creation is governed, he will not direct someone to violate
that. God is not double minded! And just because the Lord extends
grace to some people, occasionally moving on them so that they feel
the need to give, this does not mean that the Lord doesn't want
them to tithe all of the time. He is simply extending them grace
to try and bless them! The fact is, even when he doesn't explicitly
move on us to tithe, we still should, because God's word and the
spiritual principle of sowing and reaping are still in effect.
The "I tithe when God moves me to" belief would be the same as believing
that you don't have to be kind or loving to anyone until the Lord
explicitly moves on you to do so. Or the same as believing that
it's OK to murder someone unless the Lord explicitly moves on you
not to do so. Or that infidelity in your marriage is OK as long
as God does not impress upon you to stop. It's the same kind of
logic! God's written word is ESTABLISHED and is the set standard
by which we need to live regardless of how we feel, and regardless
of whether the Lord explicitly moves on us to obey his word or not.
"I can't tithe because I only have a little income." (Or just enough
to get by.)
The Lord expects us to be faithful with all he has given us, regardless
of the amount. Anyone who believes they do not have enough to be
able to tithe needs to consider the possibility that they have only
a little because they have not been faithful with what they have
been given.
The Bible says, faithful in little, faithful in much. (Luke 16:10)
But many Christians have that backwards, ignoring the words of our
Lord. They think that when they have abundance, then they will give
faithfully and bountifully because they can. However, they don't
realize that the test is being faithful in the small things.
When people say they will give when they have enough to give, they
are essentially saying they will give out of their comfort zone.
And that's not good. They are not acting in faith, nor does it please
God. But when people give out of their 'little' or out of their
need, not knowing whether they will have enough or not, then they
are giving in faith and obedience to the Lord and his word.
Therein lies the test! The Lord honors faith, and those who are
faithful when they only have a little will indeed be faithful when
they have much.
A faithful person will find a way to be faithful to the Lord. For
example, they'll skip a meal out, or cancel an unnecessary expense,
and the Lord will be faithful to them, rebuking the devourer, blessing
the remaining 90% of their income, and making sure their needs are
met. (Malachi 3:11)
"I'm a member of my local church and give my tithe to them."
This is 100% acceptable as a layperson under the exclusive spiritual
covering of a local Church. However, when one is being mentored,
licensed or ordained under another covering, things change. You
will no longer be a layperson under the spiritual covering of your
local church. Rather, you will be entering into the fivefold ministry
under the spiritual covering of PFMI.
The tithe belongs to your spiritual oversight - those who are overseeing
your spiritual growth and well being. When you are accepted into
PFMI for mentoring, licensing or ordination, PFMI becomes your spiritual
oversight. Therefore your tithe should go to PFMI.
This doesn't mean you can't be a member of your local church, but
when PFMI becomes your spiritual covering, you are then a member
of PFMI, and therefore a representative of PFMI in your local church.
If your local church feeds you they are in fact deserving of an
offering, but the tithe is to be given to your spiritual oversight.
"I do not know you very well, and therefore will only give as the
Lord directs."
We understand such concerns, and it is wise to know about a person
or a ministry before joining with them. However, we have the same
concern with the people who apply for mentorship, licensing and
ordination. We are opening the ministry doors to a person whom we
do not know if they will be an asset to the ministry or will be
detrimental to it, i.e., faithful or unfaithful. So, we too need
to get to know the applicants and be sure they are faithful individuals
and will join with us in unity, as we join with them in unity. Typically,
when a person is faithful to give of their finances, without holding
back, then that is a good indication that they are faithful to the
Lord in all things.
Further, if the Lord directs a person to join with a ministry, it's
no longer in their hands - as if it ever were in their hands. As
children of God we are not in a position to qualify the directives
of the Lord on our lives. So, if he says go, we go. Therefore, it
is our job to simply obey and do what is required of us. If the
Lord has led someone to join with PFMI, he knows the requirements
- after all he established them - thus, he expects us to abide by
them.
It's also noteworthy to mention that PFMI is faithful in stewardship.
There are many people in need who are helped by the finances that
come into this ministry. But even if someone disagreed with the
handling of any ministry's finances, that doesn't give them a license
to disobey God's directive. Their concern is to be faithful with
the directives and requirements the Lord has given them, not to
make God's directive subject to their own reasoning.
So, as we obey him and are faithful in what the Lord has required
of us, he will reward us for our faithfulness and obedience. And
if a person or ministry is not being faithful or properly handling
what they have received, then the Lord will deal with them as he
chooses. Our concern, first and foremost, is with our own responsibilities
and whether or not we are obeying his word.
"Due to the laws in my country, we are not allowed to send money
out of the country."
This is perfectly understandable. In such situations, we do not
require people to violate the laws of their country. However, this
does not pardon them from tithing. In such cases, each individual
will be directed as to where their tithe should be given and how
it should be handled. Each individual is required to be faithful
and honest to his or her agreement before the Lord.
"Requiring people to tithe is nothing but greed! Its a money making
scam!"
It's truly a shame that in the midst of scams, scandals, con artists,
unscrupulous people, greed, and wave after wave of negative reports
that the truth of God has been lost on so many people. What many
fail to see is that there are two sides to this particular claim
of greed - there are those who want to get something for nothing,
and those who don't want to let something go.
PFMI operates in full accordance to the word of God to the best
of its ability. Not only do we require tithing of new applicants,
but we also require it of everyone, from the Founder on down. We
live what we proclaim, and anyone who believes that living according
to the word of God somehow indicates a wrong heart issue needs to
reevaluate the way they judge.
Making such assumptions based on a person's own beliefs, and according
to what they think they see on the surface, is a grievous error
of judgment. The only way we can ever judge rightly is by the word
of God - and not just by our understanding of it. It is the Lord
and the Lord alone who knows the hearts of men, and anyone to claim
to know another person's heart without divine revelation judges
foolishly and is in error.
More often than not, when a faithful, upstanding, and Christ-like
ministry gets accused of being a moneymaking machine, the greed
doesn't fall on the side of the ministry, but rather on the side
of the accuser, who either lusts after a large amount of money themselves,
or does not wish to part with what rightfully belongs to God.
